Are you looking to support equity deserving families?
Birthing Families Foundation is a Registered Canadian Charity that has been actively and successfully providing access to barrier free doula care on Vancouver Island and on the Gulf Islands since 2021.
As of February 2024, Birthing Families Foundation is getting more requests than ever for support, and we urgently need more funding to meet these requests for support.
Our Community Doula Connection Program offers specialized perinatal doula support for underserved families for whom the cost of doula care would be a barrier. Our wrap-around referral model of care focuses on working closely with already existing support services and organizations that interact with this same population. By working together, we create more robust models of care that work cohesively and share resources effectively.
Through this programming we are receiving consistent feedback from our on-the-ground support people of the wider gaps in critical support that our most vulnerable community members are needing, such as: advocacy, food security, child care, and secure housing, to name a few.
Birthing Families Foundation needs the help of our private and corporate donors in the community, in order to continue providing consistent support for our communities.

Doulas work with pregnant people to help them experience care that is individualized, safe, healthy, and equitable. Doulas can be particularly beneficial for women of color and women from low-income and underserved communities and can help reduce health disparities by ensuring that pregnant people who face the greatest risks have the added support they need. But for people in low-income communities, doula care is often out of reach due to financial constraints and the limited availability of doulas in their communities.
Having a doula to support care during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum has been proven to improve clinical health and emotional well-being outcomes, which is even more critical in areas with limited access to adequate care and for families that face barriers with intersectional challenges such as mental health, addictions, racial and gender-based biases and economic stressors. Doulas facilitate and encourage education in community, informed consent and strategies around safe and inclusive care that centers the birthing person and their autonomy.
